Every kid has the right
to dream.
Anidan is an NGO founded by Rafael Selas in 2002 to address the needs of children in Kenya. Located off the northern coast on the island of Lamu, it has a Shelter that houses more than 150 children and feeds, clothes, cares for, and educates more than 280.
Our Projects
Shelter
Many educational materials in local languages are often out of date. We work with school leaders and publishers to ensure that students have access to current textbooks that are age appropriate and written in their primary language.
Children’s Hospital
The Hospital Pediátrico in Lamu, Kenya, helps poverty-stricken children facing harsh realities when falling ill. Its care, preventive activities, and health education significantly reduce disease prevalence and child mortality. With 8,000-9,000 consultations yearly and visits to towns without medical assistance, the Hospital is crucial for the district's 120,000 residents. Volunteer Spanish doctors and nurses provide care and training, supporting the Hospital's mission.
Helping the community
We are dedicated to helping the community in multiple ways. Our efforts have a direct and indirect impact on society. Through our work with children, we can assist the most vulnerable. We provide aid to support entrepreneurial mothers and needy grandmothers while also contributing to projects that uplift marginalized communities. Furthermore, our employment opportunities benefit the entire community, helping to create a brighter future for all.
"After 20 years of devoting myself to helping children and fighting poverty in Lamu, I am grateful for the rewards and the wonderful people I have met. Thank you to all who have helped bring hope and dreams to thousands of children in our hospital and at Anidan. Your efforts have made a difference in their lives, and I feel fortunate to have been a part of it.
Tuko Pamoja Milele (Together forever).”
— Rafael Selas, Founder and Director of Anidan
